May 8, 2009 - Intense spring storm damages Shawnee Library System's headquarters

Staff rode out the storm in restrooms and luckily no one was hurt.
With no power, the Plinkit server wasn't functioning, so websites for close to 80 Illinois libraries weren't available until service was restored Sunday afternoon at emergency facilities. The storm caused gas leaks, downed trees and ripped the roof air conditioning unit off its base.

Troy Brown, Shawnee's IT manager and Illinois' Plinkit Technical Group representative, reported that they are running limited services out of emergency facilities. Brown and others have been working tirelessly to restore all services. Plinkit was one of the first services to be restored.
