Technical Group Minutes March 19, 2008
In attendance: Troy Brown (Illinois), Holly Gordon (Texas), Steve Gregory (Colorado), Darci Hanning (Oregon), and Bev Obert (Illinois)
1. Introductions
Welcome aboard Troy! We're glad to have you :)
2. Status report from states
Texas
- 20-30 live Plinkit sites with another 20-30 in development.
- Installing test server with Plone 2.5.5 in preparation for Plinkit 2.0. Considering Kupu v 1.4.7 vs 1.3.9. Darci noted that the latter is documented in the latest User's Manual and Steve mentioned that Sharon may be working an update to cover 1.4.7
Oregon
- Still working on about 1-2 sites/month; limited time due to other projects
- Will be presenting at the OLA/WLA joint conference on Drupal, Joomla, and Plone. Slides will be made available and possibly audio as well.
- Has an interview with Jeannine from IMLS about Plinkit and the Collaborative
- Four Plinkit sites have launched with professionally designed web banners: Wagner, Oregon Trail, Dora, and Helix.
Illinois
- 36 live plus three more that went live yesterday (but are not yet listed)
- 12 more libraries have been trained and should be live in about 45 days
- Goal is still 100 total by the end of this year.
- Hosting first statewide Plinkit Conference!
Side Discussion:
- Troy asked about an error he sees in Plone 2.1.4 when going to the Digital Exhibits page:

Darci explained: in Plone 2.1.2 and earlier, there was a bug in the atct_topic_view template that was fixed by creating a custom version of that template. However, that fixed template doesn't work correctly in Plone 2.1.4 (which subsequently fixed the original bug). The upshot is that if you're running Plone 2.1.4, go to your custom folder and delete (or rename) the atct_topic_view template.
Colorado
- Sharon (Project Coordinator from Colorado) has been promoted (congratulations, Sharon!). Colorado will be hiring someone to replace her for the Plinkit project and in the meantime, she's covering both positions.
- Steve is planning to go to a Plone Bootcamp and is keeping an eye on dates/locations. Troy was encouraged to go as well and Darci suggested that Illinois request full or partial reimbursement from the Steering Committee.
3. Report from Steering Committee and Project Coordinators
- Nothing to report. Next Steering Committee meeting is on March 28 (Darci forwarded the agenda to technical group)
4. Status of Plinkit 2.0
- Texas has started testing. Holly is sending feedback to Tine who will send to Joel.
- Colorado doesn't have their own template/Product available yet but has done some testing and will send feedback to Joel
- Darci will call Joel this afternoon for a status update
5. Outstanding items, etc
- Plinkit Setup / Plinkit 2.0 / Plone 2.5
- Testing has started; waiting for more updates from Joel
- Darci has been in touch with Toni Mantych regarding an updated Administrator's Manual. They may be meeting next week to talk in more detail.
- Skins and Color Schemes
- Illinois has a few new skins/colors that Troy will upload as .zexp files that can be imported and used by partner states.
- Steve mentioned trying to go through the DIY Plone Styles Product/Tutorial which wasn't completely documented. Darci suggested that Steve contact the author (Dave Convent) directly and/or post to the plone-users mailing list for assistance. Troy mentioned that he went to #plone (IRC channel) for help with a hanging zope issue and got great help. (Troy will email us with the name of the Product he used to that he installed and helped to identify the issue)
- Recurring events
- Where are we with this? Darci has offered to set up a Plone 2.5.5 that can be used to test; everyone is encouraged to provide feedback. Darci will email group with details when everything is ready.
- Darci will take feedback to Andy McKay to see if he will fix any critical issues
- Adding to the Collaborative site:
- Ryan did some work that Troy will share: 12-hour vs 24-hour format for calendar(s) and a Board of Trustees template
- Part-time Position?
- The Project Coordinators developed a job description for the Project Facilitator paid position. (See Darci's email re: Steering Committee Agenda for description). BCR has agreed to provide a staff person to work 5-15 hours per week for $20,000/year. Steering Committee to discuss at their 3/29 meeting.
- ASCLA Award: Congratulations to everyone and especially to Sharon who put it all together. Tine and Darci will attend Sunday Awards event at ALA to accept on behalf of the Collaborative. Darci will also be presenting on Plinkit and the Collaborative during a half-day Open Source Panel on Saturday.
6. New Stuff
- Nothing really, pretty much covered in the rest of the meeting :-)
Next meeting: April 25, 2008, 9a PT / 10a MT / 11a CT.
