Status of INCOLSA’s participation
Shaffner read Humphrey’s email which said “We are still awaiting the arrival of the dedicated server. In anticipation of installation we have prepared rack space and ensured adequate power outlets. I (Jeff) have been working with an instance of Plone 3.1.3 that we have setup on another server. INCOLSA is investigating the possibility of bringing the Plone Boot Camp to Indianapolis sometime in the 1Q of 2009 if not earlier. We have begun interviewing applicants for a senior programmer position that will have Plinkit customization as one of many duties.”
The group had a general discussion about potential new members.
Status of SOW for work on Plinkit 2.0
Hanning apologized for not finishing up the last 10% of the Statement of Work, but thinks she’ll be able to finish it Monday or Tuesday. The Project Coordinators and Tech Group Members should review it and send comments back to the listserv within a week of receiving the SOW. The SOW should get to vendors by 10/1.
Discuss the MOU for new member organizations
Hanning moved to send to the Steering Committee with the comments we have so far, Gordon seconded this motion and all voted aye, motion passed. Shaffner will put the comments in an email and send it to the Steering Committee.
Discuss the Project Plan Timeline
Krause-Thompson would like to add something about the documentation for the new product. Hanning said this should start towards end of development before the beta test starts - around December 2008.
All were happy with Morris’ suggestions (below);
Summer 2008 -Distribute Statement of Work to Plone Community for Plone 2.0
Fall 2008 -Contract developer begin work on Plone 2.0
December 2008 - Beta of Plone 2.0
Winter 2009 - Plone 2.0 roll out to collaborative Plinkit states for implementation with new Plinkit sites
Fall 2008 - Distribute Statement of Work to Plone Community for skins work
Winter 2009 -Contract developer begin work on skins
Spring 2009 - Beta of skins
June 2009 - New skins roll out to collaborative Plinkit states for implementation with new Plinkit sites
other items:
Plinkit community user group/advisory group meetings
Plinkit community usability feedback
Plinkit training modules online - tutorials for libraries
Plinkit marketing materials for Plinkit libraries
but requested that Shaffner change all Morris’ references from Plone 2.0 to Plinkit 2.0 and the “Distribute SOW” item’s target date from Summer 2008 to early Fall 2008 and for all the “other items”, add that Bev will start discussion on them in January 2009. They also asked that it be called a Suggested Project Timeline. Shaffner will make the changes and send it to Duncan today and ask if she should also forward them to the Steering Committee.
Discuss a strategic plan for the Plinkit Collaborative
This is coming from the MOU Addendum A. Hanning thought all we have is good. Shaffner will send comments to Duncan today and ask if she should also forward them to the Steering Committee.
Status reports from each state
OR – Hanning is still adding about two Plinkit sites per month. One site is taking advantage of three tree skins. She will make additional CSS sheets available. There’s a two column theme. She will send out the url when she’s done and will upload the two CSS sheets. It’s a challenge as it’s written in Plone 2.5, so it will be difficult to figure out how to move it over and it’s not a very Internet Explorer friendly theme. She had it all working in Firefox and when she checked it in IE it looked awful.
TX – Henry Stokes introduced himself (he’s the new Tine) and said he’s excited about the project. Gordon said she’s been getting Stokes up to speed, doing Google Analytics on people and trying to get a test server set up with Plinkit 2.1.4 but has been having problems with PIL. They are adding about two sites per month. Krause-Thompson said Nate Ownes, the Plone trainer is coming to Austin so she’ll go to his three day seminar.
CO – Gregory said all is slow, they are not adding new sites as they have two staff positions still open. He mentioned the CMFSin problems he emailed the list serv about this morning. He may have a spammer using web form mail to send lots of emails and the person who runs the firewall is reluctant to block their address, so he’s in the middle of debugging that today. Per Hanning you can add a new required field so it won’t get submitted. Krause-Thompson (?) suggested that Gregory try adding a Captcha to the form, and Brown added that he believes PloneFormGen has this ability. Hanning said you could just put in a question like “what’s 2+2” and look for the answer of 4 as a short term fix. Gregory thanked everyone for their good suggestions about this issue.
IL – They have not added many sites recently. Brown has one site almost ready to go live. He brought his library system’s website up on Plone 3.1 so he feels much more comfortable working with Plone and making it user friendly - the boot camp really helped. If you want to see his web site, click on http://www.shawls.lib.il.us/ He liked the JavaScript drop-down menu add-on and has learned a lot about buildout, which can be a bit tricky.
Innovative things done by states – add to website

States report on contributions to website since last meeting
CO – Gregory posted the Return on Investment calculator details.
OR - Hanning gave us a training session on the blog and posted her documentation and added an article “Plinkit: Not just for the smallest libraries.” Obert said thanks for the training.
IL – Brown added the Illinois Plinkit Beginner’s Training Manual which is branded for the Shawnee Library System but we should feel free to modify and use and he also posted the Meebo portlet instructions. He would love to see other states add their training information here too.
TX – Gordon has put out a call to their Plinkit libraries asking if they have any Plinkit training materials to please send them to her and if she gets anything she’ll post it under Resources/For Project Coordinators/Training Materials as Tine left before she had a chance to do this herself and they can’t find Tine’s training materials anywhere.
