Minutes

Joel Update

Joel has been ill and returned to work a week ago Monday. Darci met with him in person on Saturday and he's made excellent progress with both the setup tool and migrating Plinkit to Plone 2.5 and making Plinkit into a standard Plone Product. She has a follow-up phone call with him this afternoon and expects to have a URL before Friday that she will share with everyone.

Plinkit 2.0 Upgrade Planning

Darci reports that she has talked with Toni Mantych, the technical writer we have used on several occasions now, and we are hoping to have a broad cost estimate for an updated administrator's manual. Key things that will be different:
1) Plone 2.5 to be installed with the Unified Installer (no longer compiling/installing python, Zope, and Plone separately)
2) New process for new partner states to create and "productize" their master template; similarly, new process for updating states' master templates over time.
3) New procedure for creating a new Plinkit site and customizing the most common items
4) Process for migrating existing Plinkit sites into Plinkit 2.0 / Plone 2.5
5) How to use PloneFormGen to create new web forms and update default ones
6) How to add more color schemes

Next steps

1) Review / try software via URL from Joel. Collect issues and finalize software.
2) Darci will setup an initial “configuration testing” box which each state will use for QC style testing.

3) Software will be delivered to each state for Migration Testing. States will need to bring their existing sites across and test/troubleshoot those instances that arise.

4) Darci will ask Joel how he prefers to get feedback during the testing process.

5) Begin documentation and testing
6) States to deploy as ready

Development Ideas

***RECOMMENDATION: Hire P/T Coordinator for the Collaborative to manage development projects.

Suggested List for Development Projects

  • Finalize Recurring Events feature
  • Online tutorials (screencasts): refreshers, advanced features, etc.
  • Skins
  • Select free 2.5 skins (2-3), gather quotes to have each skins done in X color schemes
    • New skins from scratch
    • Usability testing
  • Start gathering feature requests from library staff

ASCLA Award

Congrats!!

Who sent things recommendations? Perhaps we can get them up on the website.

Sharon will follow up with the awards committee chair to find out about preference for press releases and find out if we can get copies of all submitted letters.

Carnegie Mellon Grant

Plinkit doesn’t really qualify because we’re not fully open source.

Other Items

PALINET –John Houser showed a lot of interest. Darci will follow-up with him.

Darci and Sharon are working on the Info Packet and “How to get started” guide for new members.

RSS Feeds – 9 feeds in default template are no longer working because the service used to generate them has ceased. Darci is working to get a new service, considering Dapper. When this is complete, States will need to change SinTools to use the new service.

Set Next Meeting
